Premonición

about

Global warming is a reality and a clear call to action. Government leaders and heads of state hold meeting after meeting but rarely come up with satisfying results. Can personal engagement make a difference in the light of such a global problem? This is the topic of a discussion among a scientist, a composer and an environmental activist, moderated by Klara presenter Sander De Keere.

The voice of science is represented by Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, professor at UCLouvain and Belgium’s best-known climate scientist. His book, In het oog van de klimaatstorm (In the Eye of the Climate Storm) looks behind the scenes at major international climate conferences. The second participant is the Spanish-Belgian composer Saskia Venegas Aernouts. Among other things, she has written music for the socially-engaged theatre of Milo Rau. To what extent is her work influenced by such problems as climate change? The third person involved in the debate is Eka van Baaren. Since 2018, she is an active member of the radical environmental movement Extinction Rebellion.

Prior to the discussion, violist Rhea Vanhellemont, who won SUPERNOVA 2020 as a member of the Desguin Kwartet, will perform Saskia Venegas Aernouts’ composition Premonición (Voorgevoel).
