about flanders festival

The Festival of Flanders has been encouraging young and old alike to enjoy classical music for more than half a century. The organisation also contributes to Flanders’ cultural influence by supporting young, Flemish artists and being at the forefront of innovative trends.

classical music festivals in flanders and brussels

Eight festivals with an international flavour (in Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Courtrai, Limburg, Mechelen and Flemish-Brabant) are developing their own activities in their own individual ways. They will cover the complete classical repertoire from the Middle Ages to the present day, with regional accents, and with detours into non-Western music.

Altogether, the Festival of Flanders involves more than 550 performances and educational projects every year, in at least 80 different towns, cities and municipalities: a significant boost for the arts, tourism and economy. This exceptionally rich offering is appreciated by visitors from this country and abroad.

The eight Festivals of Flanders form part of the Festival of Flanders partnership. Philippe Vlerick is the chair of this umbrella organisation.

Would you like to know more about the history of the Festival of Flanders? In 2018, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Festival of Flanders partnership, Francis Maes and Katia Segers wrote the retrospective Het Festival van Vlaanderen als actor in cultuur.

Since 2004, Festival of Flanders Brussels has been the organiser of Klarafestival, Belgium’s largest classical music festival. The Walden Festival takes place for the first time in the summer of 2021 and will be an adventurous summer festival for young and old alike.
