trilogy with brad mehldau
discover the many facets of jazz pianist brad mehldau
The legendary jazz pianist Brad Mehldau is coming to Klarafestival for a veritable three-day extravaganza.
recital with Ian Bostridge
For the first concert, Mehldau shares the stage with Ian Bostridge, the celebrated lieder performer. Especially for him, Mehldau composed a new song cycle: The Folly of Desire, which seeks out the dark, violent side of longing. Together with Schumann’s multi-layered Dichterliebe the duo introduces a critical note into the unbridled human passion.
Belgian premiere
On Friday 24 March this concert Brad Mehldau sparkles alongside the Belgian National Orchestra with the Belgian première of his Piano Concerto. The colourful textures sometimes recall the music of Claude Debussy. A wonderful opportunity to perform his Préludes for piano in Luc Brewaeys’ colourful orchestral version.
solo concert
On his final evening in Brussels, Brad Mehldau concludes with an intimate solo concert at Bozar. Mehldau continues to astonish audiences with his surprising improvisations and virtuosity, with which he breaks down the walls between jazz, pop, rock and classical music. It is no coincidence that The New York Times described him as “the most influential jazz pianist of the last two decades”. This concert is sold out.
