Better a good neighbour than a distant friend."
That is why Klarafestival and BOZAR are looking to connect with the people of Brussels and their habitat. A first step is MUSIKAA, a collaboration with the municipality of Molenbeek and several of its cultural partners. MUSIKAA is one big musical feast by and for the people of Molenbeek, and for everyone who wants to discover this dazzling mix of talent.
Compile your own programme from the activities listed below. A walk will take you along the most beautiful spots of Molenbeek, and in between you can taste traditional snacks and drinks, all included in the ticket price.
programme
intergenerational
Historically, music has been passed on from generation to generation. Yet today, grandchildren often don't know the musical traditions in which their grandparents are rooted. Foyer brought children and young people from different schools in Brussels together to participate in an intergenerational project. Together, they discover the musical traditions and traditional instruments that connect young and old. After this, LaVallée and the House of Cultures and Social Cohesion brought professional musicians into the mix. The result is a cross-over project in which classical versus traditional, and popular versus modern, blend together.

murmuring muses and whispering jinns
Western artists look to the Muses for inspiration; in the Arab world, jinns are on hand to grant your deepest wish. The magical inner world of dreams is where Belgian lutenist Sofie Vanden Eynde and Iraqi oud player Saad Mahmood Jawad have arranged to cross paths. Sofie and Saad join forces to rekindle the centuries-old relationship between their instruments.

Izran & Chaabi
Izran and Chaabi have a lot in common. Both are musical traditions from Morocco that are passed on orally by women. Together with the musician Fatoum from Molenbeek, De Vaartkapoen started up the long-term project Izran Revisited, to bring attention to the Izran tradition - sung poetry from the Rif mountains. Under the wings of MetX, singer Laïla Amezian explores the tradition of the Chaabi, a term used for urban music from Northern Morocco. Within the framework of MUSIKAA, both projects found each other in a joint mission. By sharing the stories of both traditions with women from the Molenbeek community, they look for what this music can mean for Brussels today. During MUSIKAA 2022, they will bring Chaabi and Izran music to the public, together with female local residents and professional musicians.
