Bayerisches Staatsorchester - Jurowski Vladimir

European Galas 2022

Four top concerts in Bozar

Traditionally, the European Galas are the cornerstone of Klarafestival. In 2021, foreign symphony orchestras did not make it to our festival, but now we are making up for lost time with no less than four top-class concerts in collaboration with Bozar.

The Orchestre National de France, under the baton of Cristian Măcelaru, will open the festival with Leoš Janáček's rhapsody Taras Bulba. At their side: pianist Boris Giltburg, winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2013. He will guarantee an inspired interpretation of Maurice Ravel's Concerto pour la main gauche.

Together with the French soprano Sabine Devieilhe, the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, will present Benjamin Britten's intense song cycle Les illuminations. Britten completed this pacifist work shortly after he set foot on American soil in 1939, fleeing a war-torn Europe.

Klarafestival is particularly proud to welcome the Italian grandmaster of the piano, Maurizio Pollini. He will perform Beethoven's sonatas. Don’t miss out on this grand experience!

The final European Gala focuses on the Passion story. Not only will Mark Padmore conduct the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, he will also perform the role of the Evangelist in Bach's St John Passion.
