VIP : Bozar, Rotonde Suzanne Bertouille | Concert : Bozar, Henry Le Bœufzaal

In the ballet Le Sacre du printemps by Igor Stravinsky and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky, an archaic community sacrifices a chosen virgin to the sun god. Erratic harmonies, wild rhythms, instruments that scale the heights of their range and a dance idiom that had little to do with classical ballet – this work was so revolutionary that a riot broke out at its premiere in 1913.

From a pagan rite of spring to an evocation of the cosmos: in Tejas (Sanskrit for fire, light, vitality and creative energy), the late Wim Henderickx sought nothing less than the sound of the universe. An orchestral big bang is followed by a wave of timbres and vibrations, inspired by pulsars, supernovas and other celestial bodies. Here too, rhythm is in command: the five-piece percussion section brings together instruments from all over the world. Claude Vivier's Lonely Child completes this exciting concert programme by the Belgian National Orchestra.
