klarafestival takes care of you

music connects. music heals. music strengthens.

But of course people in healthcare facilities often don’t get the opportunity to attend concerts. Which is why, each year in the month of May, Klarafestival brings music to healthcare facilities. With Klarafestival takes care of you, we make classical music accessible to those unable to come to the concert hall. Furthermore, we deliberately select young talent. That way, we give the stage to up-and-coming musicians.

2024: healthcare facilities

This year, from 3 to 16 May, we will perform concerts in eight Brussels care homes, together with composer and accordionist Sara Salvérius and clarinettist Jean-Philippe Poncin. They will perform music that Sara Salvérius will write during a residency at residential care centre Clos-Bizet in Anderlecht, among others.

2023: healthcare facilities, a composition commission and dance

In 2023, we invited the young reed players of the Woodwork Quintet for a series of concerts in a dozen or so Brussels residential care centres. Their programme included a new composition by the young composer Michiel De Naegel who wrote the work during a residency at one of the care facilities. And there was more: we collaborated with the intergenerational platform Labolobo. They performed together with students from Danscentrum Jette in residential care centres. We provided the musicians to accompany them live.

2022: focus on mental health and those with a disability

After a first successful edition in 2021, during which we brought the young musicians from I SOLISTI Young Stars into the courtyards of Brussels residential care centres, we presented in May 2022 the second edition of Klarafestival takes care of you with The Young Belgian Strings. This flexible string ensemble, under violinist and musical director Dirk Van de Moortel, consists of young laureates and conservatory students under 30. They performed a versatile programme of works by, amongst others, Max Richter, Dirk Brossé, George Gershwin and Giacomo Puccini. We organised 6 concerts in as many Brussels care centres, between 2 and 12 May. The focus was on mental health and people with a disability.
