Juri de Marco STEGREIF.orchester

relive the conversation 'let’s talk about the future'

Did you miss the conversation of Let’s talk about the future? No problem! Until the end of March you can watch them here.

about the concert

The STEGREIF.orchester, whose instrumentalists perform the show Listening to the Change at Klarafestival, is not an orchestra in the classical sense of the word. The musicians do not simply and unquestioningly perform what is written in the score; they do not wear smart suits and have no need for a conductor to lay down the law. Composers such as Beethoven serve merely as points of departure:  foundations that they build on with elements from folk music, blues, jazz, klezmer music and rock’n’roll. There are 30 musicians on stage who all create, compose and, in particular, move around a lot.

The artistic director of the STEGREIF.orchester, founded in 2015, is Juri de Marco. As a classical horn player, pianist, jazz trumpet player, arranger and composer, he refuses to choose between embracing and breaking with traditions. What should a 21st-century orchestra look like? What possibilities can modern technology offer? And does Europe have a part to play in the development of international cultural projects? Rolf Falter, director of the Bureau of the European Parliament in Belgium, historian, journalist and author, discusses these matters with Juri de Marco.
