FLANDERS FESTIVAL BRUSSELS

KlaraFestival is organized by the Flanders Festival Brussels.

The Flanders Festival Brussels comprises various musical activities that have been embellishing Brussels' musical scene for over 40 years. Six projects are being showcased in 2011: the KlaraFestival, The European Galas, Village on the Road, Festival on Tour, Music Masters on Air and the brand-new children’s singing ensemble in cooperation with Met-X: Shanti! Shanti! The Flanders Festival Brussels is going to meet the public and daring to think beyond the concert hall; edifying classical music is undoubtedly suitable for a gala-evening, but why not also put it in the public domain, in city squares and in living rooms…? It is classical, but always dazzling!

KLARAFESTIVAL

The KlaraFestival is a distinguished international music festival that, from the historically informed practice, strives for an original alternative for the performance of classical, romantic, modern and contemporary music. The KlaraFestival also takes up its role as a guiding artistic platform using cross-genre projects as well as its own creations. In doing so, the KlaraFestival actively gives direction to the international world of music. KlaraFestival provides ‘added value’ thanks to its intense collaboration with important cultural institutions from Brussels as well as elsewhere in Belgium and abroad. With its interactive link to public broadcasting and other (new) media, the KlaraFestival strives for a national and international feel and contributes to a positive conceptualisation of ‘classical music’ in our modern society.

THE EUROPEAN GALAS

Four times a year the European Galas bring top notch orchestras as the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre,… to the Centre for Fine Arts. An exclusive concept, the place to be for music lovers and for high level networking.

VILLAGE ON THE ROAD

Per Flemish province one village wins a cultural programme thanks to Village on the Road. The inhabitants of these 5 winning villages are treated to a cultural day in Brussels. This day includes a wonderful concert in the Centre for Fine Arts, a very special lunch with regional specialties from the participating villages and a thematic tour of their choice through Brussels.

FESTIVAL ON TOUR

The Festival On Tour Truck has a very special design: it’s a listening lounge and mobile concert hall. It brings classical music to places where classical music is rarely played, rock & pop festivals for example. Audiences experience musicians play just centimeters away, thus getting to know classical music in a whole new way. Concerts only take about 25 minutes, just right for a first impression. Invite our truck to your event and experience it all yourself!

MUSMA

MusMA: Music Masters on Air, European Broadcasting Festival: the aim of this Flanders Festival Brussels’ cooperation with 9 other festivals is exchanging the work of young composers in 10 different countries. These established festivals feel it is their task to shepherd the creators of new classical music. With support from the European Broadcasting Union, young composers are introduced to countries other than their own, thus expanding their professional hemisphere and the environment they are inspired by.

SHANTI! SHANTI!

With Shanti! Shanti! Flanders Festival Brussels and Met-X, a Brussels organization for art-education, are building up a durable and high qualitative singing group, consisting of all kinds of children from Brussels. This group is very different from a classical choir; experiment and the creation of an own repertoire is central to Shanti! Shanti! You can witness the premiere at the KlaraFestival 2011 on the 11th of September. From then on the group can be booked for all sorts of events and festivals.
